Two-Way Radios – an introduction

Two Way RadiosTwo-Way Radios are an integral part of the communication plans of many businesses, and for an obvious reason.  They are all about getting the message through, no matter the size of your business or the size of your business area.

They are simple to operate, and often need little more than the pressing of a button to enable you to talk to a colleague.  Or even to many colleagues instantly.  That is the power of Two-Way Radio.

But without the expense of contracts and costly usage fees.  Many of the Two-Way Radios we stock are based on PMR446, the European standard for licence-exempt, short-range radio equipment.

Two Way RadiosYou can use a Two-Way Radio in small, confined spaces such as a warehouse, nightclub, sports centre, concert or museum.  They can be used over larger areas, such as building sites or farms.  But in reality the range of most Two-Way Radios can be up to 2 miles or three kilometres, making them ideal tools for anyone needing to stay in local touch, including rambling, neighbourhood watch schemes, and even camping or golfing enthusiasts.  However, be aware that this is highly dependent on the terrain of the land, and areas that are hilly or built-up, this range can decrease quite dramatically.

Most Two-Way Radios come with a number of channels (the frequency the radio is tuned to, a bit like a radio station), meaning that many radio users can operate in the same local area without interference.

Some Two-Way Radios will work with conventional batteries that can simply be replaced when they run out.  Although highly convenient, this can prove quite costly.  More expensive Two-Way Radios have rechargeable batteries, and sometimes a desk-top charger so that they can be stored and charged, conveniently ready for use whenever you need it.

Choosing the right Two-Way Radio for your personal requirements can prove difficult, particularly if you are new to the world of Two-Way Radio.  Why not contact our highly-trained team at 1850 86 86 86 or email us at info@commercialwireless.ie to help you make the right choice.
